The agates for sale below are from a collection which was put together in the earlier days of Mexican agate production. In those days banded agates from the various Mexican locations were often bagged together and sold as 'Laguna'. Now that many fine books and articles have been written about these agates it is easier to identify the locations that produced individual pieces, but not always with certainty. There are many different claims in the Laguna area, all within a few kilometers of each other. I have not attempted to distinguish the Lagunas by claim. The same agate bearing formation is found a short distance to the north in the Sierra Gallego, and the Coyamito, Sueco, Aparejos and Agua Nueva agates are found there.
There are other famous banded agates from Mexico that do not come from the Sierra Gallego area, such as the Apache, Casas Grandes and Parcelas agates. These agates are rarely offered these days but you are about to see some outstanding examples below!
